Youth Ambassador for Tohoku

Posted By: Creator of Zsup

On the 16th of June, I applied for JNTO (Singapore) Youth Ambassador to Tohoku project. They were slated to select 100 applicants for this project. Considering that they were 1) going to travel to an area of Japan that I did not manage to cover during my previous trip and 2) it was the East coast that was previously hit by the tsunami, I really wanted to be selected for the trip. However, I considered the fact that there would be several hundred or even thousands of other applicants that my chances were slim. Nonetheless, I pressed on an sent my application, and left it to fate to determine whether I was to get my chance at this.

On the 27th of June, I received a call from JNTO rather early in the morning and lo' and behold! I was selected as one of the 100 lucky persons to go for this trip! I had a rather muted response on the phone I think, as the caller even asked if I was excited haha. (I was at a loss to respond actually because I didn't expect the call that early, and still in shock at being selected)

Anyways, since I am once again going on a trip, this blog shall be revived (especially since I will be able to handle carrying a laptop on this trip w/o fear of being mugged or stuff being too heavy). So stay tuned for more updates about the trip from 2 August to 9 August!

Cheerios people!!!

Hi there, I'm actually a Singaporean based in Tokyo. I've lived in Japan for a good 8.5 years already. Since the earthquake, I've gone on 6 various weekend volunteering trips to different parts of Tohoku. Just wondering if any of you require any advice for your preparations on the trip, as I have done something similar for Singaporeans volunteering through the embassy.

Cheers,

Hi Ying Loong,

Thanks a lot for the gracious offer, however I am not in any position to respond to that, as I am not an organisor for the project. I am only a project member. I do however trust that the organising committee, which is made up by JNTO and JTB and supported by the JENESYS project are well equipped to handle the project.

Perhaps in future projects I will be able to consult you with regards to these issues.

Regards.
